A school dismissal system that waited for every safety check
For a school district, JAB built kiosk check-in and parent pickup links, and held them back until every safety check passed on a real dismissal run.
30 sec
the pickup test we agreed before building
- The problem
- Student dismissal and pickup is a safety job. A system for it cannot be almost right.
- What JAB did
- JAB built kiosk check-in and parent pickup links. Before building, we agreed in writing what done meant: a parent taps the link in their text and their child is called for pickup within 30 seconds.
- What is true now
- The system went live only after every one of its safety checks passed against a real pickup run.
A school district needed a better way to run dismissal and pickup. This was not something you could buy off a shelf.
Before any code, we wrote down what done looks like in one sentence anyone could test: a parent taps the link in their text and their child is called for pickup within 30 seconds.
JAB built kiosk check-in and parent pickup links. Then we held them back. The system went live only after every one of its safety checks passed against a real pickup run.
